Tin Mug

Tin Mug

Fine china was not practical or common to have out on the North Western Plains. It was too fragile and expensive to carry, so fur traders carried tin cups instead.

Measuring 3.75" wide x 3" tall, this mug is a great size for a hot cup of coffee at your morning campfire or a cool drink on a hot evening.

Designed and created exclusively for Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site by Tinsmith Karl J. Schmidt of Dakota Tinworks, this item is available only through the Fort Union Association website and in our gift shop.
